Valorant mobile is actually happening, according to yesterday’s announcement by developer Riot.
After a year of desktop deployment, a whopping14 million PC players, and a new Duality trailer, Riot yesterday confirmed that Valorant is coming to mobile platforms. The team-based FPS, which seems to sit somewhere between Counterstrike and Overwatch hit markets a year ago. However, over half a billion games of this hugely successful shooter isn’t enough for Riot and it is expected that the newest announcement will add to that total significantly.
“One of our top goals this first year was to earn the trust and respect of the global FPS community, and to prove to them that VALORANT will always uphold the fundamentals of a truly worthwhile competitive tac-shooter,” said Anna Donlon, Executive Producer of VALORANT at Riot Games. “To see our growing player community recognize and appreciate what we’re trying to do with VALORANT is beyond what we could’ve expected and we’re thrilled to soon offer the same competitive VALORANT experience to even more global players.”
Realistically, this isn’t a surprise to see Vaorant coming to small screens. While we don’t have a set date, or indeed a confirmation of which platforms it will come to, we can make some guesses. Riot’s League of Legends: Wild Rift is already available across iOS and Android devices, meaning it’s unlikely this dual deployment will change for Valorant. We can also fully expect Valorant to stay as a free to play experience, but crossplay is an entirely different matter. For any concrete information, keep an eye out on the Valorant website now, or get ready by grabbing it on PC to learn your way around.
