Wakerunners will unleash top down PvP to Steam Next fest in February 2024
Frantic combat and intense PvP arenas are not exactly what we’d expect form the team behind laid back escape, Dave the Diver. Mintrocket has just revealed its upcoming release, Wakerunners, Initially titled project TB, it blasted onto screens last night with an action-packed trailer and a very different vibe to the studio’s previous effort. After crushing critical feedback with their deep-sea voyage, this new title hops on dry land and loads up a 4v4 & 5v5 team action game set in a near-future Earth.
Players picking up the title when it lands on the Steam storefront next month will expect a stylized far future where the world is in ruins. After a global virus outbreak and the fall of lunar debris, gravitational anomalies ravage the surface of the planet and we’re all seemingly focused on a new energy source, ‘Lunium.’
To grab this precious material, it seems you’ll get to choose from a range of cutthroat warriors with a range of outrageous abilities. Classed as Wakers or a Re-men these characters come with a range of options and varied playstyles, as you’d expect. Mintrocket hasn’t detailed much more about these competitors outside of the flashy teaser combat. Team Deathmatch, Control Conquest, Command Siege, Escort, and Raider game modes are all promised, but detail is also limited here.
Despite the cool cyberpunk aesthetic, we’re not entirely sure if this offers up more than the likes of Battlerite, Omega Strikers, or even DOTA 2.
