Developer Owlcat Games shared a new blog post dedicated to Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, outlining the enemies within, without and beyond. In the upcoming game, players will take on the role of an Acolyte of the Holy Inquisition. And so there is no better time to learn about the three main Ordos of the Inquisition: Ordo Malleus, Ordo Xenos and Ordo Hereticus.
“The three Ordos of the Inquisition represent the relentless vigilance of the Imperium. Each serves as a shield against a distinct form of existential threat: internal heresy, the horrors of daemonic corruption, and the constant danger posed by xenos races. Ruthless in action and absolute in authority, they embody the harsh reality of an age where survival outweighs mercy. Together, the Ordos illustrate both the strength and the moral ambiguity at the heart of Humanity’s eternal war in the grim darkness of the far future.”
Ordo Malleus
Perhaps the most secretive and dangerous branch of the Inquisition, the Ordo Malleus is dedicated to combating the forces of Chaos and the daemonic entities of the warp. Its members are known as “Daemonhunter” who confront the corruption of the Chaos Gods and the daemonic legions that serve them.
When confronted with the most dire threats, the Ordo will often work alongside the formidable Grey Knights, a secretive and incorruptible chapter of Space Marines created for one singular purpose: the utter destruction of daemons wherever they manifest.
Ordo Xenos
Ordo Xenos stands sentinel against the alien blight that festers among the stars and wages an unending war of vigilance and extermination. These Inquisitors have dedicated themselves to eradicating the alien menace in all its forms, and its members are often referred to as the “Alien Hunters”.
When xenos powers rise to challenge the dominion of Humanity, the Ordo answers, often working alongside the veteran Kill Teams of the Deathwatch Astartes. These warriors, clad in sable power armour and wielding powerful weaponry share a similar goal; the eradication of the xenos threat, at any cost.
Ordo Hereticus
Where the Ordo Malleus hunts daemons and the Ordo Xenos pursues the alien, the Ordo Hereticus, also referred as “Witch Hunters”, concerns itself with far more insidious foes: traitors, apostates, witches, and seditionists operating within the Imperium itself.
One cannot speak of the Ordo Hereticus without mentioning the Adepta Sororitas, the Sisters of Battle, whose ancient pact with the Ordo has endured for millennia, binding both in the unending pursuit of heretics, apostates, and the enemies of the Imperial Creed. Clad in ceramite and fortified by their unwavering faith, they were sanctioned by ecclesiastical will to bring cleansing fire to the condemned.
