Warner Bros Bloodbath: Monolith Productions Shuttered; MultiVersus to End Service in May

Warner Bros unleashed a bloodbath on their game production studios. As part of a “restructuring” project, Warner Bros has closed famed Monolith Productions which, of course, means the cancellation of the Wonder Woman Game. In addition, WB Games San Diego and Player First were also axed. The latter is the development team behind MultiVersus which is shutting down for good in May as a result.

“The development of Monolith’s Wonder Woman videogame will not move forward. Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately, this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities. This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monolith’s storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games. We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank every employee for their contributions. As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans, which are developed by our world-class studios, and getting our Games business back to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.”

What happens next?

Monolith Productions has developed some of gaming’s most iconic titles for nearly 30 years. These include No One Lives Forever 1-2, F.E.A.R., Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and The Matrix Online. Fortunately, we have GoG, which will now be instrumental in preserving the F.E.A.R. Platinum edition in March as part of its ongoing Preservation Program. It remains unknown if any other of Monolith’s titles will score the same love, but we can certainly hope it does.

For those unclear what the GoG Preservation Program is, it is an initiative to keep classic games playable now and into the future by keeping them up-to-date with modern systems and removing any DRM. There is a dedicated support team keeping gaming history alive.
