Whirlight – No Time To Trip – Steam Demo Impressions

What happens when an eccentric scientist and an eclectic artist meet? While it might sound like the beginnings of a joke, this is a very real situation for the heroes of Whirlight – No Time to Trip.

This charming, time-traveling point-and-click adventure from imaginarylab will test the two protagonists, Hector and Margaret, as well as players with a variety of bizarre situations.

Do you have the imagination to find your way out of this pickle and save the world in the process? Check out the Whirlight – No Time to Trip demo to find out!

After just a couple of minutes with Hector, one can immediately tell that his main strength and his biggest weakness is his sheer, unbridled brilliance that is only matched by his enthusiasm for all things and his misfortune alike. Yet the scientist remains optimistic and unbothered in face of any adversity, cracking jokes and sharing life wisdoms left and right. Even when he gets sucked into the bizarre unknown or struggles when his inventive streak seems to run out.

Whirlight – No Time To Trip features breathtaking hand-drawn graphics and larger-than-life personalities that get thrown into absurd situations. It is up to you to point-and-click your way through this journey spanning space and time, and to save everyone from the imminent threat that looms over the world.

However, it is quite easier said than done. After all, how are you supposed to save the world when the only things you have going for you, besides your charm and witty disposition, being some beans, someone’s forgotten dentures, a piece of a rope and absolutely no idea what to do next?

Much like the greats of the genre, Whirlight sometimes features quite unexpected sequences of actions that would lead to your success and the continuation of your journey.

Prepare to interact with anything that looks mildly interesting or suspicious, attempt to combine any two items that might have the potential to somehow interact, dig through your inventory in case there’s something to read – and still be surprised by what you find or run into. Just logic will not be enough to carry you through, get that imagination going!

As you travel across different eras and meet unique characters, one thing keeps strong: the point-and-click gameplay core that does not get boring as you poke your way forward.

Your heroes travel across linearly-connected locations, approaching the areas of interest and objects that you click on. There are items to pick up, books to read, characters to interact with, and, of course, puzzles to solve.

Some are more obvious, like picking up an item and immediately using it to interact with another object in the vicinity. However, quite quickly you’ll find yourself in a situation where things stop being quite so simple. Now it would take combining items, pressing through to a different location to interact with newly revealed objects, gathering more items, and turning back only to receive a few clues on how to proceed.

However, the world of the game is filled with humor brought forth through dialogues, interactions and animations alike, an unmistakable cartoony magical atmosphere and quite a few twists that prevent that back-and-forth from feeling repetitive.

Hector’s unusual approach to his situation and surroundings only adds to the charm. If you find yourself lost, Whirlight can mark the interactable objects if you hold down the right mouse button. While it doesn’t immediately give you an out, perhaps seeing what the game offers can provide a clue!

If an airhead of a scientist is not your usual cup of tea (we will not judge, but we will certainly make a note of that), Margaret is a completely different type of person. She is strong-willed and determined, and extremely down-to-earth, where Hector has his head in the clouds. Together, the duo might just have what it takes to save this magical world.

If you enjoy point-and-click adventures or have always wanted to try one but could never find something to sweep you off your feet, Whirlight – No Time to Trip is all that and more. Based on the contents of the demo, the game will offer something unique, created by a mix of bizarre hilarity, magical atmosphere, unforgettable characters and imaginative gameplay.
