Summer Games Fest just dropped a brand new look and an Early Access date for upcoming dark fantasy shooter, Witchfire. After an initial announcement and some teasers, we now know the incoming inquisition is set to slay on 20 September for PC, via the Epic Games Store. Until it comes out all guns blazing, the appearance at this summer’s most recent video game cavalcade gave us a look at what to expect when things kick off, and you can take a look above.
Conjured up by the creators of Painkiller and Bulletstorm, this spellbinding bit of run and cast plunges players into a grimdark fantasy. Here, a deadly war rages between powerful witches and the Church, and the Witches of this world are extremely dangerous. These vicious predators have only one real foe. The Preyer. These Vatican sorcerers come packed full of powerful magic and forbidden weaponry.
Discussing the latest gameplay trailer Adrian Chmielarz, Creative Director and Co-Founder of developer The Astronauts, said: “The last few trailers were very combat focused, and I think gave the wrong impression that Witchfire is a non-stop action fest. It is not. Sure, some fights will be incredibly intense, but there are also periods of quiet exploration, planning, thinking. It is much closer to Souls in that regard rather than, say, Doom. So that’s why the beginning of this new trailer is a little slower. We might slow down even more when there’s finally time for the launch trailer.”
