The second Rovers stepped foot into Lahai-Roi in Wuthering Waves Version 3.0, one thing became obvious: the design philosophy of the new region is extremely different from the ones we’d seen before. Whether you compare it to Huanglong, the Black Shores, Rinascita or Septimont, Lahai-Roi would stand out from any of them.
Now that the story has come this far, moving past the WuWa second anniversary and into the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collab, the developers are sitting down to discuss the design and philosophy of Lahai-Roi in the new developer deep dive video. Join Kuro Games’ Q and J for some behind-the-scenes stories when it comes to the game design.
The information density in Lahai-Roi is higher when compared to other regions. Players can get a lot of information out of the NPCs such as I.R.I.S. or NANA. Additionally, the importance of the Exostrider for the region is shown early on.
Centuries ago, both a calamity and the Exostrider emerged in Lahai-Roi from deep underground. The Frostlands caved in, devouring all lifeforms and erasing every sign of their existence. In the darkness, the Exostrider swung its greatsword to seal off the calamity. It drew the fiery Reactor Drive from its chest and lifted that undying light high up to the skies of Lahai-Roi. Players will need to learn to navigate the Void Storm, a Waveworn Phenomenon unique to Lahai-Roi, that envelopes the region.
Players also see the Exostrider’s greatsword early on, left to wonder about the Exostrider itself. Each distinct area of Lahai-Roi has its own focal points, with the piercing greatsword making the maps feel more cohesive, as it becomes a narrative thread for the Roya Frostlands, linking them to the Dimmr Plains below.
