Xbox Insiders Get Sneek Peek At Reels on ROG Xbox Ally X

Xbox Insiders with a ROG Xbox Ally X now have a new way to capture and share their best moments. Microsoft is rolling out Highlight Reels, a feature accessible through Game Highlights (Preview) on the game page of the Xbox PC app. Built to automatically clip your standout plays, Highlight Reels eliminates the need to manually record or leave your game just to capture those moments. It runs in the background with no extra downloads required, letting you stay focused on the session.

The early preview supports a curated selection of titles, including Forza Horizon 5, Overwatch, Fortnite, Elden Ring, Among Us, Lies of P, and Palworld. These titles span genres, from racing to competitive shooters to sprawling RPGs, and showcase how the system is designed to detect moments worth saving regardless of play style.

To try Highlight Reels, you must first be enrolled in the Xbox Insider Program. Next, ensure that background recording is enabled. This can be toggled through Game Bar under Settings > More Settings > Widgets > Record in the background while playing, via Gaming Copilot’s capture settings, or directly in Windows under Settings > Gaming > Captures > Record what happened. Once those settings are active, simply launch a supported game and play. At the end of your session, Gaming Copilot automatically compiles clips into a highlight reel ready to view and share within the Xbox PC app.

Microsoft is actively soliciting feedback from Insiders as part of this preview. Players are encouraged to try the feature and provide thoughts through the Xbox Insider Hub or in-app reporting. That feedback will help shape potential broader rollout plans, expanded game support, and future refinements.

Highlight Reels uses the Ally X’s capabilities, including its integrated AI hardware, to detect and save exciting gameplay without much performance overhead. It follows a trend of AI-assisted features planned for the handheld, similar to previously teased tools like Auto SR for upscaling games. For players who frequently miss the start of a great play because they forgot to hit record, Highlight Reels could be a subtle but welcome addition. If the preview goes well, this might be the start of more automated tools for capturing and sharing gameplay on Windows handhelds.
