Xbox is going back to translucent green plastic for its 25th birthday. The company has unveiled the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition, a special run of its flagship console that wraps standard Series X hardware in a shell inspired by the original 2001 Xbox, complete with a matching controller and a glowing green “X” on the front.
Officially part of the broader Xbox 25th Anniversary collection, the Series X25 is the first time Microsoft has given the Series X a translucent treatment. The console keeps the usual 1 TB SSD and performance profile of a standard Series X, but swaps the matte black tower for a see‑through OG‑green exterior that reveals the internal structure. When you power it on, the front “X” logo lights up in green as a nod to the old boot animation, and a 25th Anniversary badge sits on the front face alongside other small callbacks to past Xbox hardware.
The Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition is getting the same treatment. It features a translucent green shell, classic ABXY colors, and bumpers styled after the black and white buttons on the original “Duke” controller, with a fully transparent back and battery door exposing a retro Xbox logo. The controller will ship both in the console bundle and as a standalone accessory for players who just want the throwback pad.
Microsoft hasn’t announced pricing yet, but the company says the controller will arrive first in October, with the Xbox Series X25 following in November in select markets. Given that the current disc‑based Series X already sits in the high‑end of the console price spectrum, it’s reasonable to expect the anniversary model to land at a premium when preorders open later this year.
