At the game showcase, developers from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio presented a new combat trailer of Yakuza Kiwami 3 and shared some more details. Earlier during Tokyo Game Show 2025 they officially announced a complete remake of Yakuza 3. The new version of the old classic doesn’t just bring new graphics and performance improvement, but also promises a whole pack of new content.
Answering the questions about the upcoming remake, Ryousuke Hori, the director of the studio, shred some interesting details. Foremost, he confirmed that the game will be appealing for both new players to the yakuza series and the veterans. Yakuza Kiwami 3 brings to the table new side quests, mini-games and much more for players to discover. Many side stories were tweaked and rewritten, while the ‘weak’ moments were completely reimagined. Moreover, the Mourning Glory orphanage became a more interactive place, including new scenes between Kiryu and the kids.
The battle system didn’t stay without new additions, either. Kiryu receives a new style called Ryukyu, reflecting the Okinawa traditions and culture. For the authentic representation, the developers researched the traditional Okinawa martial arts and its deep long history. The gameplay trailer gives a glimpse at this style in game. It reveals that Kiryu uses weapons instead of bare hands, when switches to Ryukyu style.
The spin-off Dark Ties, which features the story of the main antagonist, won’t require additional purchase. The character was popular among the series fans and thus developers decided to tell his story in more details. More over, Yoshitaka Mine will receive a unique combat style, that reflects his nature and character. Based on the boxing techniques, it will feature dynamic moves and final blows, showing off the rage and ferocity boiling under the calm surface.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties goes live on 11 February 2026 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2.
