Even so, developer ArenaNet launched Guild Wars Reforged, a huge update for the original, back in December. Now they are at it again, launching Guild Wars Reforged on iOS and Android worldwide, letting players explore the original Tyria on mobile with full cross‑play and cross‑progression with PC.
The mobile version is not a separate spin‑off. It is the same shared world and servers as the PC client. UI and controls have been rebuilt for touch screens, with mobile‑friendly skill bars and movement, but your characters, progress, and account all carry over if you log in with your existing ArenaNet details. If you already own Guild Wars Reforged on PC, you just sign in on your phone or tablet and keep playing, with no extra cost, no new box to buy, and no ads tacked on top.
For everyone else, the on‑ramp is basically “Guild Wars 1 with a modern free‑to‑try model.” New players can download Guild Wars: Prophecies and play the full original campaign for free, with ad support during loading screens. If you are ready to commit, a one‑time $6.99 purchase removes the ads for Prophecies. The Factions and Nightfall campaigns are also available a la carte at $6.99 each. Eye of the North comes in at $9.99, and the Bonus Mission Pack is $5.99. It is closer to buying old boxed expansions on sale than it is to the usual mobile MMO monetization circus.
Cross‑platform support has a couple of caveats. Progression ties cleanly between mobile and the standalone PC client via ArenaNet accounts, and you can convert a mobile‑only ID into a proper account later if you start on your phone first. Steam users are the odd ones out for now. Mobile IDs cannot be linked to Steam accounts, so you will need an ArenaNet login if you want to bounce between Steam Deck, desktop, and mobile.
For long‑time Guild Wars players, the pitch is simple: your 21‑year‑old characters now live on your phone as well as your hard drive. For MMO fans who skipped GW1 but bounced off more modern, grind‑heavy titles, Reforged on mobile is a low‑friction way to see what the pre‑Guild Wars 2 world was about, without a subscription and without being chained to a desk.
