What Should You Play in October 2025? We Have Ideas

September’s crazy gaming month has not yet been digested, and October is already shaping up to be just as intense, with major new releases starting on the 2nd.

While October 2025 may not be the most eventful month in terms of noteworthy game releases, some of the games are definitely among the most anticipated of the year. The good news is that there are fairly long gaps between their releases, so you’ll have time to finish one game before starting the next one without feeling rushed.

Ghost of Yotei

  • Release date: 2 October 2025.
  • Platform: PlayStation 5.
  • Genre: Action-adventure

This is an indirect sequel to the popular samurai action game, Ghost of Tsushima. Set 300 years after the original, the plot centres on a wandering mercenary named Atsu. Before the events begin, a group of bandits called the Yotei Six kill the girl’s family, forcing her to seek revenge and learn the skills of a warrior.

Fans of the original will be familiar with the gameplay. The heroine travels through colourful 17^(th)-century Japanese locations, completing main and side quests and participating in various activities, such as visiting training grounds where she can chop bamboo and paint small pictures. At the same time, Sucker Punch Studios has placed a strong emphasis on freedom of exploration: players can independently find clues in the open world that will lead them to story missions or other events.

Sucker Punch’s impressive graphics will delight players, as noted by all gaming journalists. The game features realistic landscapes, changing weather and detailed animations. The gameplay offers over 20 hours of fun. The atmospheric soundtrack enhances immersion in the world of samurai.

Bye Sweet Carole

  • Release date: 9 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
  • Genre: Adventure

This 2D adventure horror game is inspired by cult Disney animated films. Bye Sweet Carole tells the story of a girl named Lana who visits the abandoned Bunny Hall orphanage in search of her best friend, Carol. There, she discovers a passage to another world, where she is captured by the terrifying Mr Keen and his henchwoman, the heartless owl Velena.

Little Nightmares 3

  • Release date: 10 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Genre: cooperative adventure

The third instalment of the horror adventure franchise follows children trying to survive in a dark world where almost all adults appear as grotesque creatures. In Little Nightmares III, the main characters, Little and One, are friends who fall asleep and find themselves in a deserted dimension called Nowhere, which is inhabited by monsters.

This is the first game in the trilogy to support co-op play. However, cross-play is not available — co-op play is only possible on the same platform. In single-player mode, the second character is controlled by AI that can respond to basic commands, as in the 2021 sequel.

In terms of gameplay, the game remains faithful to its predecessors. You must explore surreal locations, solve puzzles, run away from monsters, and fight them. However, battles with monsters play a more significant role, as the heroes now have permanent weapons. Malaya wields a bow and arrows, while Odna uses a massive wrench. The characters also have additional gadgets, such as umbrellas that enable them to float above vertical air currents.

Battlefield 6

  • Release date: 10 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5.
  • Genre: Online shooter

This is the first instalment of the popular shooter series since 2021. During the development of BF6, EA conducted closed testing and an open beta, after which they made numerous improvements to the gameplay based on user feedback. However, the franchise’s core feature remains unchanged — players can still expect large-scale online battles on destructible maps.

The creators of Battlefield 6 have implemented a ‘kinesthetic combat system’ that gives players greater control over their characters. For example, BF6 enables players to peek around corners, climb onto military vehicles, and drag fallen comrades to a safe location to revive them and send them back into battle.

The shooter features six online modes, including the classics: Capture, Breakthrough, Assault, King of the Hill, Domination and Payload. Nine maps will be available at launch, including Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3.

Unlike Battlefield 2042, Battlefield 6 also features a story campaign in which events unfold in 2027 across various regions, from Gibraltar to Tajikistan. According to the synopsis, the elite Dagger 13 squad engages in a confrontation with the private military organisation Pax Armata, which is interfering with NATO operations and causing global instability.

Recent reports from journalists suggest that completing all the missions takes about five to ten hours. However, the total time depends largely on the scale of the tasks: some missions require the exploration of open locations.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

  • Platform: Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
  • Genre: Adventure

This is the next full-fledged instalment in the Pokémon series. Legends: Z-A is set in the Paris-inspired city of Lumiose, where a Pokémon tournament is taking place. This RPG adventure’s gameplay is divided into two phases. During the day, players can explore the open world, complete quests and search for fantasy creatures. At night, they can participate in a high-stakes tournament against powerful opponents. One of the game’s key villains is Corbo, the mysterious head of a criminal syndicate that controls the metropolis.

Keeper

  • Release date: 17 October 2025.
  • Platform: PC and Xbox Series X/S.
  • Genre: Adventure

Keeper is a surreal adventure game created by Tim Schafer and Lee Petty of Double Fine Productions, the team behind Psychonauts and RAD. You play a living lighthouse on a deserted island that is awakened by mysterious tentacles. Accompanied by a mischievous seabird, you set out to explore a strange, wordless world full of living trees and bizarre creatures.

Gameplay combines exploration and atmospheric puzzles with walking on the lighthouse’s ‘legs’. There is no combat, only observation and interaction, and an emotional story about friendship and loneliness. Drawing inspiration from Salvador Dalí, it features serene visuals and a soundtrack that heightens the mystery. It’s perfect for fans of Journey and Inside.

Ninja Gaiden 4

  • Release date: 21 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5.
  • Genre: Action

It is the first numbered instalment in the franchise in 13 years, and Team Ninja has returned to work on it in partnership with the PlatinumGames team. Set in a futuristic Tokyo, the game centres on two main characters: Ryu Hayabusa, who is already familiar to fans of the series, and the mysterious Yakumo, who uses a special ninja technique called the ‘Form of the Blood Crow’. The protagonists must lift an ancient curse from the city and prevent the Dark Dragon from appearing.

The developers claim that Ninja Gaiden 4 skilfully combines Team Ninja’s combat mechanics with the dynamic battles typical of PlatinumGames titles. Players will be able to slay hordes of demons and cyber soldiers using Ryu’s familiar abilities from previous instalments, such as ‘Izanagi’s Throw’ and ‘Flying Swallow’, as well as Yakumo’s brand-new skills. The developers have stated that they have implemented flexible difficulty settings, enabling veterans of the franchise to challenge themselves while completing levels and allowing newcomers to simply enjoy the spectacular adventure.

Painkiller

  • Release date: 21 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5.
  • Genre: Shooter

This is a reboot of the brutal first-person shooter series. Players must take control of demon hunters and battle the fallen angel Azazel and his army of the undead, who are intent on enslaving Earth. Painkiller is the first game in the series to feature a co-op mode, though this is optional — you can play the new game alone or with two AI teammates.

The main gameplay cycle consists of completing linear missions in various locations, alongside trials and mini-quests. Between missions, you can visit the Crossroads of Purgatory, a hub where you can change heroes, purchase and activate skills, and select your next task. Here, you can upgrade your weapons by enhancing them with elemental effects and Tarot cards that grant special abilities.

Alongside the main campaign, the shooter features a roguelike mode called Rogue Angel. In this mode, you must advance through procedurally generated levels, fighting various bosses and collecting equipment.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

  • Release date: 21 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5.
  • Genre: RPG

The sequel to the cult RPG has been in production for more than six years. During this time, it has undergone a change of development studio and experienced numerous delays. The game’s plot follows an ancient vampire named Fae who awakens in Seattle at the beginning of the 21st century after a century-long hibernation. Players can customise the hero’s appearance and choose from six available clans (similar to classes), which provide additional dialogue options and skill sets.

The main character must adapt to a new world and discover why and how his powers have been limited. He is accompanied by the ghost of detective Fabien, whose story is revealed in flashbacks that take place long before the events of the game begin.

The world of Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 is divided into five districts that players can freely explore in search of main and side quests. As in the original game, interacting with characters plays a significant role, but judging by recent media previews, the branching is more modest and the locations are more linear.

The creators of this action RPG do not intend to limit themselves to a single story campaign. In 2026, they will release two DLC campaigns: ‘Loose Cannon’, focusing on Sheriff Benny from the Brujah clan, and ‘The Flower & The Flame’, dedicated to Isabella, the primogen of the Toreadors.

Tormented Souls 2

  • Release date: 22 October 2025.
  • Platform: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
  • Genre: Old-school survival horror

This survival horror game continues the story of Caroline Walker, the main character from the first part. The protagonist travels to the Chilean city of Villa Es, where rumour has it that there are doctors who can help her sister Anna overcome her nightmares. However, upon arriving at her destination, she realises that the settlement is deserted and overrun with monsters.

Players must visit various locations, including a gloomy abode, an abandoned shopping mall and an old school. The key mechanic of the sequel involves moving between different realities — by travelling to another dimension, the heroine alters the past, which ultimately affects the present.

Like the original, Tormented Souls 2 is inspired by the classics of the genre — the game features a fixed camera, character-based controls, a limited number of saves, and complex puzzles. This horror game also features battles with enemies using a homemade arsenal of weapons, ranging from nail guns to chainsaws. This equipment can be modified to increase its power and convenience.

Players who have not played the original game from 2021 or are unsure about the sequel can try the demo, which is available on all platforms.

Dispatch

  • Release date: 22 October 2025.
  • Platform: PC and PlayStation 5.
  • Genre: Adventure

Dispatch is an interactive superhero comedy from AdHoc Studio in which your choices shape the story. Play as Robert Robertson, the former hero Mecha-Man (voiced by Aaron Paul), whose suit was destroyed in a battle with his archenemy.

He is now a dispatcher at the SDN centre, where he coordinates a team of dysfunctional misfits — ex-villains such as the Invisible Man and the Flying Man. His job involves strategically distributing heroes to ’emergency situations’ on the city map, taking into account their stats, traits, and cooldowns.

The Outer Worlds 2

  • Release date: 29 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
  • Genre: RPG

This is the sequel to the comedic sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment. This game is unrelated to the original, released in 2019, and is set in the remote space colony of Arcadia. The main character is an agent of the Earth Directorate who travels there to investigate the cause of the space-time rifts that have isolated the settlement. However, the mission does not go according to plan.

They become embroiled in a conflict between the militarised Protectorate, the megacorporation Auntie’s Choice, and the Order of the Exalted. As players progress through the game, they must choose a side, which affects the subsequent development of events and the attitude of non-player characters (NPCs) towards the player character.

According to the developers, The Outer Worlds 2 is bigger than its predecessor in every way. This RPG features over 90 skills, improved mechanics, six companions with their own stories and quests, and large-scale missions. The developers have also improved the shooting mechanics, making each gun unique — they even consulted with the creators of Halo on this.

Obsidian calls TOW2 its most ambitious game yet. The studio has addressed the shortcomings of the original, further developed the popular elements, and retained the franchise’s signature sarcastic humor.

ARC Raiders

  • Release date: 30 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
  • Genre: Extraction Shooter.

Created by Embark, the studio known for The Finals, Extraction is a shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world. The game is set in a future where Earth has been overrun by mysterious ARC robots, and humans are hiding in underground shelters. Only raiders dare to leave the bunkers — fighters who explore the planet’s surface in search of valuable resources.

ARC Raiders offers PvPvE gameplay, in which players must fight each other and intelligent, AI-controlled machines. Matches last 30 minutes, during which time raiders must collect loot, fight enemies if necessary, and successfully reach the exit point — an evacuation elevator, subway station, or special hatches that require keys.

At the base, players can sell their finds, purchase upgrades for their weapons and equipment, and enhance their character with passive bonuses, such as increased stamina and stealthier movement. The developers have also announced the possibility of upgrading the shelter, which develops alongside the hero and whose appearance depends on the success of the raids.

The extraction shooter features cross-play between all platforms: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Embark has repeatedly stated that they prioritise fair play, so the matchmaking system automatically searches for teammates and opponents with similar skill levels.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake

  • Release date: 30 October 2025.
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
  • Genre: Action Shooter.

This is a remake of two cult JRPGs, linked by a common storyline centred on the descendants of the legendary Erdrick family. The first game follows a courageous hero on a mission to vanquish the Dragonlord and retrieve the Sphere of Light. The second game centres on a group of young princes and princesses from the kingdom of Middenhall, who find themselves in conflict with an evil sorcerer and his army of monsters.

While the main storyline remains unchanged, the developers have made several significant alterations to ensure that the first, second and third parts feel like a cohesive narrative. For example, playing through the re-releases of the original game and the trilogy will reveal a certain final scenario in the sequel.
