Bungie dropped a tone of new information and a look at Marathon gameplay footage during the weekend.
The developer behind Halo and Destiny dropped a bunch of information on tis upcoming adventure Marathon, and it’s definitely got a voice all of its own. During Saturday’s Marathon Gameplay Reveal Showcase, players got a look at Alpha gameplay form this stunning new FPS. The look ahead takes a dive through the perilous world of Tau Ceti IV and looked back at the recent Alpha test.
Check out the new footage and get a look at this new world, where players will Inhabit inhabit a Runner, a cybernetic mercenary scouring the remains of a lost colony for fortune and power. Dash across greenery, walkways, and industrial habitats all deserted expect for security, and those forces aren’t the welcoming committee you want.
Thankfully death is just another hurdle. Human consciousness in biosynthetic shells gain a range of abilities beyond being difficult to delete. Choose from a roster of cybernetic mercenaries with unique abilities, customize the loadout and capabilities using weapons, implants, and equipment collected on runs.
While I’d love this to be a twist on Mirror’s Edge, given the aesthetic similarities and talk of running, this is more akin to Bungie’s take on an extraction shooter. It’s a distinct twist on the traditional loot and shoot, with Bungie’s own narrative take on things. Player’s eager to try it can join the official Discord to keep an eye out for Closed Alpha access later this month, or just look at what’s coming when Marathon releases September 23, 2025 on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S with full cross play and cross save.
